Looking…
When you’re hunting for a job, things can get stressful. Variables like salary, start date, location, etc. all come into play. If you’re looking for a job with a PC(USA) church, check out the Church Leadership Connection site for open positions. You can search by position type, location, experience, and more.
You can also search on broad job sites like indeed or LinkedIn. Doing a Google search for local churches or organizations with which you’d be interested in working would be another option to tailor your search by location. Even if the church/organization doesn’t have open positions listed on their site, send an email anyway! Let them know that you are interested and available. You never know what extra work they might have available or what positions are about to open up. Better yet, go visit these locations in person and bring a resume, just to say that you’re available and show your interest up front.
Did you know there’s actually a site where you can review church compensation by position and location? Whether you are restricted by geography or you want to find the best location for your area of interest, this is a great place to start; you can even compare locations. Click here to try for yourself!
Finally, don’t underestimate the power of connections! Talk with Dorothee Tripodi & Susan Fox about parish placement or contact Clay Macaulay to connect with alums in your area. Sometimes it’s just about getting a foot in the door (and that’s a lot easier when you know someone on the inside).
While you’re waiting, try picking up a side job (like the suggestions here) or take Professor John Vest’s approach and envision a new way of “doing church” where you create the role for yourself. Merge your passions together and start a venture like The Joyful Feast. Watch John’s video below to learn more about the changing tides of church work and his solutions to the problem:
