Director of Christian Education–River Road Presbyterian Church–Richmond, VA
Job Summary: Working under the direction of the Senior Pastor/Head of Staff and in close collaboration with the Faith Formation Ministry team, use gifts, talents, and experience to direct a broad Christian Education and Faith Formation ministry for children, youth, and adults. Provide creative and constructive opportunities for spiritual formation and development integrating education, worship, mission, and fellowship.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Familiarity with and acceptance of the essential tenets of the Reformed Faith
• Bachelor’s degree – relevant field preferred (e.g.; Education, Religious Studies)
• Teaching experience (church-related setting preferred)
• Strong organizational skills and capacity for team building
• Outgoing and engaging personality, capable of both leading and collaborating with ministry team
• Enthusiasm for learning and Christian Education
• Familiarity with relevant software for church-related education (Email, Office, Canva, Google Suite, etc.)
Core Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and the Faith Formation Ministry team to develop and implement the overall Christian Education vision of the church.
• Review, develop, and recommend curriculum and programs such as children’s and adult Sunday School classes and children’s worship activities
• Oversee generally the Sunday morning educational and other programs for children and adults.
• Teach and lead Sunday School classes and other educational programs as appropriate (e.g.; adult book studies, seasonal devotionals).
• Collaborate with Faith Formation Ministry team and others to recruit, train and coordinate education volunteers
• Coordinate special programs including children’s Christian faith foundational/milestone classes, seasonal programs for Advent, Lent, and Easter, and Vacation Bible School.
• Lead the children’s message and children’s activities during worship on Sundays.
• Work in coordination with the Growth & Outreach Ministry to facilitate a follow-up plan for visitors or new members to encourage participation in RRPC Christian Education/Faith Formation programs for children, youth, and adults.
• Participate in or lead church retreats and conferences as determined.
• Coordinate and oversee nursery and preschool caregivers.

• Utilize continuing education opportunities to remain current on effective programming and continued personal growth.
Compensation
Starting salary range: $58,000-62,000. Modifications will be made as determined annually by the Session and Personnel Ministry. Premiums for individual health insurance, dental, and death & disability benefits are fully paid by RRPC. Additional insurance/benefit participation, including participation in Retirement Savings Plan, may be obtained through Board of Pensions under its terms and as determined by the church and the employee. Four weeks annual vacation and continuing education and telephone allowances provided.
