As we look back on the highlights of 2024, we celebrate Union Presbyterian Seminary faculty member Frances Taylor Gench, a fifth-generation Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) minister, who won an Award of Excellence in Biblical Interpretation. Her thoughtful reflection on female pastoral leadership and biblical interpretation was recognized by the Associated Church Press (ACP), which honors excellence in faith-based media. Are you interested in exploring Baptist studies this spring? Union Presbyterian Seminary invites you to audit one or both of our Baptist House of Studies courses during the upcoming semester, running from January 6 to April 9.

This spring, we’re offering Baptist History, taught by Dr. Phyllis Rodgerson-Pleasants Tessieri on Mondays from 8:30 to 11:20 a.m., and Baptist Polity, taught by Dr. Bert Browning on Mondays from 1:30 to 4:20 p.m. Both courses are available in person or online via Zoom.

The Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion invites new submissions for The Katie Geneva Cannon Award.

The Rev. Dr. Katie G. Cannon award honors her legacy as a pathbreaking womanist scholar in religion and as a founding member of the Journal’s editorial board. As part of the Journal’s continuing efforts to combat anti-Black racism, this award encourages and gives recognition to Womanist scholarship and activism and seeks to facilitate conversation on anti- Black racism and white supremacy as these play out in feminist studies in religion. Submissions for the award can reflect the full range of Dr. Cannon’s interests including any of the featured areas of the Journal such as critical and constructive essays, Living It Out activist essays, In a Different Voice poetry and art, or Short Takes on politics in the classroom and beyond.
