This online course is open to all. The Polity & Administration course is a part of the seminary’s Pathways online course program, and this same course has also been approved for those seeking to become a Certified Christian Educator (to fulfill the Polity, Program, and Mission course requirement).

This 8-week course includes weekly online class meetings, on Tuesday evenings. In addition to the live class meetings, this course will include both reading and written assignments.

Online Course Title:  Polity & Administration

Led by: Rev. Carson Rhyne, Adjunct Instructor of Practical Theology, Union Presbyterian Seminary

Course Description: This course will engage the Presbyterian Church (USA) Book of Order, its underpinnings, and its implication for mission and ministry. As part of the course, participants will review administrative tasks which grow out of the Book of Order (e.g., session meetings, committee meetings, stewardship season, personnel matters and policies, financial matters, presbytery meetings, annual statistical reports).

This course will be suitable for CRE candidates in-training, as well as for Christian Educators seeking certification for Presbyterian Polity, Program, and Mission.

Online Course Format:  Weekly class meetings via Zoom Technology, along with assignments posted on Blackboard, the seminary’s learning management system (login credentials provided)

Dates: Tuesdays, September 13 – November 1, 2022, with weekly class meetings following the below schedule:

Class meetings on 9/13, 9/27, 10/11, 10/25, 6:30-8:30 p.m. ET

On  the other weeks, there will be two separate sections and participants will be assigned to a section that will meet at different times during the evening on 9/20, 10/4, 10/18, 11/1 at one of these times:

Section #1 will meet from 6:30-7:45 p.m. ET

Section #2 will meet from 8:00-9:15 p.m. ET

Cost:  $150, if register by August 29. (Note: Beginning August 30, price increases by $25).

CEUs:  3.0

The Pathways Online Course Program offers ten courses to provide educational preparation toward leading a congregation as a Commissioned Ruling Elder (CRE) over a two-year period .  This Polity & Administration course is also approved for those seeking to become a Certified Christian Educator (CCE). Yet, courses are open to all, and one does not need to be pursuing to become a CRE or CCE in order to participate. Courses aim to enhance knowledge and practical application to various ministry contexts.
