Online Workshop: Creating a Virtual Choir
Dates: Tuesdays, March 2 and March 9, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. EST (Note: This online workshop is a two-part series).
Led by: Douglas Brown, Director of Music and Adjunct Instructor, Union Presbyterian Seminary
Workshop Description: This two-part online workshop, led by experienced musician and music director, Doug Brown, is designed to be practical and interactive. Participants will gain experience in creating a virtual choir, including tips for selecting a vocal arrangement, instructing vocalists to perform on their own electronic devices, and editing the separate performances into a virtual choir. In addition, workshop participants will have the opportunity to sing and submit their performances as part of a joint effort in producing a choral project together, creating a virtual choir resource that participants can use on Easter Sunday in their own churches. The video resource will be edited by the instructor and provided to workshop participants for use in various settings, if desired.
Please note: The instructor will be utilizing a MAC computer to present around GarageBand and iMovie. Knowledge and instruction for PC users may be limited.
Leader bio: Douglas Brown serves as the Director of Music and Adjunct Instructor in Church Music at Union Presbyterian Seminary, a position he has held since 2006. He is also Director of Music and Organist at Ginter Park Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Virginia. He holds degrees from Duke University and the Yale School of Music. During the pandemic, he has produced more than forty virtual choir videos for both the seminary and the church, ranging from hymns to multi-choir choral works to children’s musicals.
Online Format: This two-session workshop will use Zoom technology to meet online in order to allow for presentations by the leader as well as interaction among participants. Participants will need an electronic device equipped with a reliable Internet connection, built-in or external microphone, and a built-in or external webcam.
Cost: Both individual and group registration options are available; group registration consists of up to 3 individuals from the same church or organization.
$50 per individual, if register by February 21, 2021. (Note: Beginning, February 22, individual price increases by $15. Register early and save!).
$85 per group (up to 3 participants from the same church/organization), if register by February 21, 2021. (Note: Beginning February 22, group registration price increases by $15. Register early and save!).
CEUs: .4 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) for this event. Note: CEU certificates can be generated upon request at the time of the event.
