This is an online course open to alumni of Union Presbyterian Seminary with either a M.Div., MACE, or M.Div./MACE degree. This course includes five (6) online class meetings, on Monday evenings, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. EST. In addition to the live class meetings, this course includes both reading and written assignments. However, as a continuing education program, no grades or degree credits will be issued.

Online Course Title: Word & World: A Lectionary Study (Year C), Part I

Led by: Dr. Carson Brisson, Associate Professor of Bible and Biblical Languages, Union Presbyterian Seminary

Course Description: This Continuing Education online course will explore selected readings from the Revised Common Lectionary, Year C, beginning with Advent texts and extending into Epiphany texts. The class will ordinarily meet via Zoom every two weeks for two-hour sessions. (See below list of dates and times.) The instructor will briefly introduce texts and identify their major historical, literary, and theological features and themes with a view toward further class discussion, in break-out groups and in plenary, of connections to the worship, teaching, witness, and work of the Church in the world God has “so loved.” Participants will prepare their own notes prior to each class meeting, from which they will engage with peers during class discussions.  Appreciative inquiry will characterize class sessions.  Enrollment is limited in order to facilitate participation of all class members.

This course is Part I of a two-part series. Part II will be released at a later date.

Online Course Format:  Bi-weekly class meetings via Zoom Technology, along with assignments posted on Blackboard, the seminary’s learning management system (login credentials provided). Registered participants will receive a Zoom meeting link the week prior to the course’s first meeting.
