Online Course: Pastoral Care (Pathways Online Course)

This is an online course that is open to all. This 6-week course includes weekly online class meetings, on Tuesday evenings, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. EST. In addition to the live class meetings, this course includes both reading and written assignments.

Online Course Title: Pastoral Care, Pathways Online Course

Course Description: This course focuses on the art of listening in a ministry of care. Topics covered in brief are listening, the role of self in a ministry of care, family systems theory, grief (and loss), the significance of ritual in pastoral care, and care as it relates to rites and sacraments in the life of the church. The course will include special focus on what care in a post-pandemic world will look like and how a pandemic has changed the ways in which one thinks about a ministry of care.

Online Course Format:  Weekly class meetings via Zoom Technology, along with assignments posted on Blackboard, the seminary’s learning management system (login credentials provided)

Led by: Dr. Carol Schweitzer, Associate Professor of Pastoral Care Emerita, Union Presbyterian Seminary

Dates: Thursdays, March 3 – April 7, 2022, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time

Cost:  $135, if register by February 16, 2022. (Note: Beginning February 17, price increases by $15).

CEUs:  3.0

Pathways to Learning and Leadership is an online program of nine courses offered over a two-year period to provide educational preparation toward leading a congregation as a Commissioned Ruling Elder (CRE).  Courses are open to all, one does not need to be pursuing to become a CRE in order to participate. Courses aim to enhance knowledge and discipleship, and each course is five weeks long.
