Collaborative Youth Minister
Job Overview
First Presbyterian Church and Trinity Episcopal Church in the downtown of Florence, AL are looking for a full-time youth minister to serve our active and growing group of young people in grades 6-12. The youth minister will work with the ministers of the two churches to grow a youth program that incorporates the youth of both our congregations as well as youth not connected to a faith community.
The primary focus of our youth minister will be to work with the ministers of Trinity and First
Presbyterian to grow a dynamic and creative program with faithful and well-trained volunteers and an empowered group of teenagers. Our ideal candidate enjoys working collaboratively, has an infectious faith, excellent communication skills, a calling to mentor young people in their faith and involvement in the church, and experience organizing group activities.
Job Description
Work under the supervision of the ministers of First Presbyterian and Trinity to develop and
implement the direction and mission of the collaborative youth program
With the ministers of the two churches, choose or write appropriate curriculum
Work with volunteers to teach Sunday School and lead weekly programming
Coordinate events for the youth
Attend Sunday worship services and other congregational special events at both First Presbyterian and Trinity
Attend staff meetings at the two churches and monthly meetings with the youth leadership team and ministers of First Presbyterian and Trinity
Help plan and organize special worship services that are led by the youth at both churches
Engage with the Youth Department of the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama by attending monthly
meetings – by Zoom or in person
Write updates for the churches’ newsletters and social media posts
When possible and within appropriate bounds, attend important school and educational events,
sporting events, theater and musical programs in which our youth are involved
Job Qualifications
Lay or ordained
Experience working with young people
A history of active involvement in ministry whether volunteer or paid
Theological training a plus but not required
Time Commitment
40 hrs week
Salary and Benefits
Salary: $58,000 (negotiable)
Employee benefits: health insurance, pension, continuing education allowance, four weeks vacation
