Megan Strollo called to join Union Seminary faculty
RICHMOND, VA (June 3, 2020) – Union Presbyterian Seminary has appointed Dr. Megan Fullerton Strollo as assistant professor of biblical languages at the Richmond campus effective July 1.
Strollo received both her Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy in biblical studies degrees from Union Presbyterian Seminary in 2012 and 2020, respectively, and has taught biblical languages at the school since 2016, including Hebrew and Greek. In 2012 she received the seminary’s Patrick D. Miller Award for Excellence in the Study of Scripture. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in music, minoring in religious studies, from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008.
“Dr. Strollo has already proved to be an invaluable resource for the biblical program at UPSem,” President Brian K. Blount said. “The Hebrew and Greek classes she has taught while finishing her doctoral program have been well received by students and highly regarded by her teachers, and now colleagues, in the Bible department. I look forward to her continued excellence in the classroom and her invaluable insights as a member of the department and faculty.”
Her primary research interests include the Megilloth, biblical languages, biblical theology, intertextuality in the Bible, feminist biblical interpretation, and women in the Bible and biblical world. Her dissertation research explores the theological themes of divine activity and human agency in the books of the Megilloth (Ruth, Song of Songs, Ecclesiastes, Lamentations, and Esther). She has published articles and reviews in peer-reviewed journals and is a contributor in Megilloth Studies: The Shape of Contemporary Scholarship (Sheffield Phoenix Press, 2016).
As an ordained minister affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Strollo has served in pastoral roles at various churches in Virginia and enjoys opportunities to bring her research interests to the church and other public forums. When she is not teaching, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two daughters, and serving in her local community of Fredericksburg, VA.
