Free Public Lecture to be led by Director of Syngman Rhee Global Mission Center on March 25

RICHMOND, VA (March 20, 2019) – How do socially marginalized groups bring together disparate faith traditions to evolve new spiritualities?

On March 25, Dr. James Taneti will address this question as part of the 2019 Dawe Lecture, entitled “Spirit at the Edges: Sanskritization of the Telugu Pentecostals.”

The lecture will focus on how these faith traditions on the margins of Protestant Christianity drew theological resources from the western Holiness tradition and their own folk worldviews to evolve their own form of Pentecostalism. Dr. Taneti will also analyze the impact of social aspirations and dominant cultures in the flourishing and warping of these eclectic traditions.

Dr. James Taneti is the Director of the Syngman Rhee Global Mission Center for Christian Education and Assistant Professor of World Christianity at Union Presbyterian Seminary.

The 2019 Dawe Lecture will take place on March 25 from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. in Watts Chapel on the Richmond campus of Union Presbyterian Seminary. The event is free and open to the public.
