Diane Giannola called as chaplain of Union Seminary Charlotte
RICHMOND, Va. (August 27, 2018) – Diane Bell Giannola, a recent graduate of Union Presbyterian Seminary, has been called to serve as chaplain for the school’s Charlotte, North Carolina, campus.
Giannola brings more than 20-years of healthcare and pastoral experience to her new position, having served as a parish nurse for Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center and First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte. She completed an internship as a hospice and a CPE unit as a palliative care intern. She served as the parish intern on mission outreach ministry at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, where she was also a deacon and assisted in training deacons in offering compassionate care to church members during times of need. She also was a nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and Boca Raton Community Hospital.
“From day one of Giannola’s journey with us, she has carried a deep concern for the pastoral care and spiritual practices of our seminary family,” said Dr. Richard N. Boyce, academic dean of the seminary’s Charlotte campus and associate professor of preaching and pastoral leadership. “This is grounded in her gifts as a parish nurse, her experience as a student, and the biblical and theological wisdom she has deepened along the way. We will be a better and more healthy community because of Giannola’s witness and presence in our midst.”
As chaplain, she will plan worship services and provide pastoral care to the seminary community, including students, faculty, staff, and administration.
“I consider the opportunity to serve as the chaplain of Union Presbyterian Seminary at Charlotte a wonderful blessing,” Giannola said. “I am both grateful and deeply honored to be called to this ministry.”
Giannola holds an Associate of Science in nursing from Palm Beach College and received her Master of Divinity from Union in June 2017. She was a lecturer at Queen’s University Parish Nurse Institute. Her certifications include critical care and parish nursing, spirituality and healing medicine, and pastoral care and education.
