Connolly C. Gamble, first director of continuing education at UTS, dies

Union Presbyterian Seminary has learned with great sadness of the passing of Connolly C. Gamble, a former faculty member and alumnus of Union Theological Seminary. He was the first director of continuing education at UTS which is now the Leadership Institute of Union Presbyterian Seminary, and he was a pioneer in the field of continuing theological education in North America. Gamble was elected Moderator of the South Carolina Presbytery (1949), East Hanover Presbytery (1955), Synod of Virginia (1970), and president of the American Theological Library Association (1960).

Gamble was elected first president of the Society for the Advancement of Continuing Education for Ministry (SACEM) from 1967-69 and executive secretary of SACEM serving part-time from 1968-1987. He actively participated in Sprunt Lecture gatherings and other seminary events until well into his late 80s.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Brandermill Church, Midlothian, VA.
